SYNOPSIS

Set in a near-future England where the poorest people in the land are forced to sell their children to a travelling circus - to perform at the mercy of hungry lions, sabotaged high wires and a demonic ringmaster. The ruling class visit the circus as an escape from their structured, high-achieving lives - pure entertainment with a bloodthirsty edge. Ben, the teenage son of a draconian government minister, visits the circus for the first time and falls instantly in love with Hoshiko, a young performer. They come from harshly different worlds - but must join together to escape the circus and put an end to its brutal sport.

REVIEW

This story revolves around Hoshiko & Ben. Two people from two different classes, Pures & Dregs. Hoshiko, a Dreg, works at The Circus where Dregs are treated insanely badly and are looked down upon. On the other hand we have Ben, a Pure, son of the minister living a pretty luxurious life. When Ben visits The Circus, he is immediately drawn towards Hoshiko. A pure war between 2 worlds. When will the insane cruelty towards Dregs end?
THIS BOOK IS I.C.O.N.I.C. I mean it! IT'S JUST SO GOOD!!!! The main character, Hoshiko is such a talented clever & Sharp character. Ben is a softie kinda guy whose trip to the Circus has changed his life. This book is extremely dark and indulging. It's just so weird and dark like once you start it there's no going back. The torture on the Pures just gave me goosebumps, like it's just so scary. There were most definitely tensed scenes. The book was quite fast paced despite being thick. I never once got bored while reading it. Extremely emotional & action packed.
Overall, I'd highly recommend it to everyone. Extremely beautiful and heart wrenching read. Just a warning: contains really really severe torture & abuse.
